Sounding Grid Use

A Sounding Filigree is used to:

  1. Simultaneously store and visualize data of dissimilar kinds, including data attributes such every bit 95% confidence level, min/max values, etc..
  2. Compute and display surface differences, e.1000. real-fourth dimension dredged depth versus design depth.
  3. Summate volumes, prove statistics, create contours and spot soundings for ENC's, DXF's and PRO's.

The filigree is generated on-the-fly and has no purlieus. It comprises ii types of layers:

  1. User divers layers employed to store and visualize data of different kinds, e.1000. design layer, in-survey layer, mixture density, mixture velocity, etc. as indicated in the image below.
  2. Regular multi-level grids. Based on the user defined minimum cell size, v boosted grids are automatically generated on-the-fly. So for example, if the minimum prison cell size is chosen to be 1m 10 1m, the following filigree levels are generated: 2x2, 4x4, 8x8, 16x16 and 64x64 as an overview level. This machinery is used when scaling the navigation display, in generating contours and in data consign.

Creating a New Sounding Filigree - Program Functionality

The new application was included in the Autumn 2015 release of QINSy and is used by default when creating a sounding grid from the Session Setup Storage option in the Controller.

The program's functions are:

  • Create a new sounding filigree file
  • Change the grid settings of a new sounding grid file
  • Add layers to a new sounding grid file
  • Modify layer settings of new layers
  • Add together layers to an existing sounding grid file

Online the following dredging related data can be stored to the sounding grid:

  • Bathymetry
  • Dredge Head Tiptop
  • Current Product
  • Mixture Density
  • Mixture Velocity

The former application is notwithstanding bachelor and is used by default when creating a new grid in the Processing Manager, and when using the stand-alone program, i.e. \Program Files (x86)\QPS\QINSy 8.1\SoundingGridUtility.exe.

Making a new Sounding Filigree

There are 2 primary places for creating a new sounding grid:

  • Controller - Settings - Session Setup - Storage - Sounding Grid: This is the all-time option for dredging. It uses the newer Creating a New Sounding Grid program. At startup a number of predefined layers are bachelor for activation.
  • Processing Managing director - File - New - Sounding Grid: This option uses the previous sounding filigree program. At startup merely one layer is predefined. You lot have to add together any others you desire.

Sounding Grid versus Dynamic Surface (acquisition fashion)

Each type tin can be created both in the Controller and in the Processing Managing director.

Sounding Grid: During data conquering if you add new soundings to grid cells that have previously been filled, the new data is MERGED with the existing and new attributes are computed, i.e. hateful value, standard deviation, count, minimum and maximum values.  See annotation below.

Dynamic Surface: During data acquisition if you add together new soundings to grid cells that have previously been filled, the new information OVERWRITES the existing and new attributes are computed for the new information, i.eastward. mean value, standard difference, count, minimum and maximum values.  In dredging applications a dynamic surface has limited value as information technology simply has one layer, i.e. you cannot add a design layer.

Caveat

Sounding Filigree - Overwrite Mode
This parameter is only shown when the Date attribute has been enabled during grid creation for one or more of the layers.
Past default new depth data is automatically merged with existing data.
In dredging operations overwriting of existing information is often what is needed to monitor progress.

  • Age - Newer data will overwrite older data if the age of the older data is greater than the Age fourth dimension entered.
    • Used when using a Multibeam on a cutter dredger. When swinging in a cutting the data is averaged if the data is not older than the threshold historic period set up.
    • This tin can be useful if you desire to redo a survey line and but want to overwrite the sounding grid information of the previous effort.
  • Time (older than)- Newer data will overwrite older information if the time tag of the older information is before the time and date entered.

Controller - Settings - Session Setup - Storage - Sounding Grid

Using your template database commencement the Controller, select Session Setup and Storage.

Click on Sounding Grid.

How to utilize the old sounding grid dialog instead of the Create Sounding Filigree awarding

If preferred the older sounding filigree dialog tin exist used when Online.Information technology requires a registry setting modify:

Open the Controller - Session Setup - Storage - Sounding Grid page once. Then close the Controller.
The registry cardinal with default value is at present added to the registry.

Open the registry settings by pressing the Windows central and typingRegedit in the search box.

  • In the Registry Editor, click Edit -> Find...
  • Fill in: Allow Legacy SoundingGridDialog
  • Right-click on it, and select Change
  • Its default value is 0000 00
  • To enable the new app, change information technology to 0000 01
  • Click Ok, close the Registry Editor

Processing Manager - File - New - Sounding Filigree

In the Processing Manager File carte, select New and Sounding Grid. This opens the Edit Surface dialog.

Enter the sounding grid file parameters.

Sounding Grid File

File proper name

By default the new grid is named NEWGRID. Change this by entering a dissimilar proper noun. The name on the left is then updated.

Prison cell size

Enter a value for the base cell size (Reminder - an additional five filigree layers are created with increasing prison cell size)
For dense information a pocket-size size can exist ready (0.10, 0.25 or 0.5 meters).
For widely spaced data a large size can be fix (deep water e.g. 50 meters).

Origin Mode

Automated

Centers the grid around the very first point that is imported or that is written to file during conquering.

The algorithm to calculate the origin will always upshot in an origin which is a factor of north ten cell size relative to 0,0 in both directions.

Example:

Easting = 75498.367
Cell Size = 0.3

75498.367 / 0.three = 251661.22333.
We take the number before the decimal signal and multiply it over again with the jail cell size
251661 * 0.3 = 75498.3
So the origin is ever a multiple of prison cell size relative to 0,0

User Defined Chiliadanually input the center coordinates.

Grid Units

Survey Units

Every bit set in the template database (Database Setup).

Geographical Seconds Grid is defined past geographical coordinates Breadth and Longitude. Be careful in setting the base of operations prison cell size: i second of arc at 45 deg breadth is approximately 31m in breadth and 22m in longitude.
If you want a geographical cell size equivalent to one meter enter 0.03".

By default the plan creates one layer named SURVEYDATA.

Clicking on this name opens a different dialog that controls the filigree's layers.

Sounding Grid Layer

Layer Proper noun

Change the default layer proper name by entering a new name in the text field. The layer name on the left is so updated.

Layer Type

Click on this line to activate the drop downwards menu.
Select the type of data that is stored in the layer: Bathymetry / Side Browse / Magnetometer / Other.
This has no influence on the information itself and is just for ease of recognition.

Layer Configuration

Click on this line to activate the drop down menu.
Select a way to fill up the grid.
Each setting has its own range of data labels (shown in the lower panel) which will be stored as statistics for each grid cell filled.

Click on if you want boosted layers to store other bathymetry such as a blueprint model, InSurvey, Interim and OutSurvey, or if you demand to store other information types such as Mixture Density, Mixture Velocity, TDS, water temperature etc.
Gear up the name, type and configuration for each new layer added.

Click OK to consummate the grid definition.

Importing a Design Model to a Sounding Grid

At the moment (Feb. 2016) at that place are three different options for importing a design model:

Controller - Settings - Session Setup - Storage - Sounding Grid (*.pts/*.grd)

Click on the Import button which opens the Import to Grid File dialog.

Define the import parameters:

File
Source File Type Select either a Points File or a QPS Filigree File from the pull downward carte.
Typically the points file format is Eastward,N,Z although delimiters Space and Tab are as well supported.
A single layer of an existing grid file is imported during each import transaction.
Source File Select the designated grid file by pressing the browse button. A standard MSWindows selection window will appear.
Source Layer

When importing from an existing grid file, specify the layer from which the data are copied.

Target Layer Select which layer to copy the source data to.
Import Mode

Current Filigree File The filigree file that was selected in the Project Explorer is shown hither. It is the sounding filigree to which the data are imported.
Used Expanse All - All available space is used to import data into the grid, including data which might not currently be visible in the Project View.
Boundary - Only data falling inside an existing boundary (created in a *.pro file or a *.dxf file before) is imported. The PRO or DXF purlieus must already exist imported before information technology can be selected.
Past Mouse - Simply data falling within an expanse polygon divers by mouse in the Project View is imported. Click the mouse to depict each vertex of the polygon.
Visible Area - Only data falling inside the bounds of the electric current Project View is imported. Zoom in or out to expand or contract the covered surface area.

Fill Method

How should the grid exist filled: with a Points File / Single Value / Interpolation / Extrapolation / Design Model / Geoid Model / Other Filigree.
In this case select Design Model.

Write Method

Overwrite existing data: the value in whatever jail cell already populated will exist replaced with the imported value.

Merge with existing data: the imported value for a jail cell will be added to the existing value and a new hateful value is computed.

Jail cell Option

Choose which cells should be filled:

All cells: Any cell for which in that location is a value in the imported information is written into the SG layer. Whether the imported value replaces or merges with a previously existing value depends on the write method selected.
Empty cells: Only empty cells in the existing filigree layer are filled by values from the imported data.
Filled cells: Simply filled cells in the existing grid layer are filled by values from the imported information. Empty cells remain unfilled.
Whether the imported value replaces or merges with a previously existing value depends on the write method selected.
Interpolated cells: Just previously interpolated cells in the existing grid layer are filled by values from the imported data. Other cells remain unchanged.
Whether the imported value replaces or merges with a previously interpolated value depends on the write method selected.

Scale Factor

This is a multiplication factor which is applied to the information during import. For example if the original sounding points are in meters and yous want to import soundings expressed in feet, enter the scale factor to catechumen anxiety to meters.
Or if the depths of data to be imported are +ve, they must be converted to a -ve value using a calibration factor of -i.

Target Layer Select the layer of the existing grid into which the imported data is to be written.

Blazon of data

Reports the arrangement used to collect the data being imported.
Choice becomes available when that blazon of information can exist stored in a grid layer. In this case the grid layer does not take the attribute Quality.

Date of logging

The appointment of collection of the data to exist imported.
Options becomes available when that type of data tin be stored in a grid layer. In this example the grid layer does not have the attributes Date and Time.
